The original building of the hotel was constructed in the late 1930's and was operated as a private hotel until sold in 1999 to local Sydney developers. In 1999 the hotel was designed and reconstructed by the renowned interior architects Burley Katon Halliday and converted to a 40 room modernist hotel complimented by a mecca of restaurants, bar and conference areas on the ground floor. In 2006 the Kirketon Hotel went through another transformation. While undergoing a soft refurbishment in the rooms maintaining the Kirketon's original quality and style, the ground floor was completely recreated in anticipation of the brand new Kirketon Dining Room & Bar.
